There's a little small town, that's in a little small corner of Oklahoma, called Mountain View. And every year, on the first weekend of August, they have a fair. And it's not like any fair you've ever been to. It starts on Wednesday night and ends on Saturday night.
It's great and I love going!
At this particular fair they do not have food vendors. They have only two food stands that are run by the local high school. One stand is ran by the Juniors and the other by the seniors. All of the students make the food themselves. And it's not regular fair food, it's good old southern comfort food. They have Calf fries, Catfish, Fried Okra, Fried Squash, ribs, brisket, baked potatoes, Corn on the cob, smoked pork chops, homemade ice cream, hamburgers french fries Lemonade and Ice tea. The students use the money to fund their senior trips.
Yum! It's making me hungry.
The town owns their own carnival rides and they are all antiques. They have a Ferris wheel from 1915, Merry-Go-Round from 1926, and a Pony Cart Ride and a Kiddy Car ride from the 1940's. All Rides are run by the local business and fire departments.
They also have games too, like a ring toss, skee ball, bingo and a basket ball toss. They have an exhibit building for everything imaginable: Cookies, quilts, finger paintings, photography, vegetables... They also have a horse, pig, and goat show. And a 4-wheeler rodeo. It's a blast!
This all takes up about 25 acres and it's always packed. There is so many people. Not just people from the area, we don't know where all these people come from. Every one just stands around and visits until they start turning the lights off at midnight.
I wish I had pictures to show you, but I haven't ever taken my camera because I've always been working at one of the booths or helping with the tractor pull. This year was mine and LB's first time to not have any jobs at the fair. We were able to just go and enjoy! Of course I forgot my camera. I promise to take it next year so you can all see. And if you're ever in the area around the first weekend of August drop in and have a plate of calf fries!
